The Process: how we prepare and coat a part
The Process

In our workshop
From bare metal to finished part.
Here’s the finished part. Scroll down and we’ll take it back to bare metal and through each main stage, in the order we do it.
Burnt Bronze, H-148
- Degrease: cutting fluid, grease and fingerprints are cleaned off first, because Cerakote won’t stick to them.
- Mask and plug: threads, bores and mating faces are plugged or taped before blasting and stay protected until the coating has cured.
- Blast: blasting cleans the metal back and leaves a fine, even texture for the coating to grip.
- Coat: we spray by hand in thin coats, working round the part so edges and recesses are covered too.
- Cure: most finishes go in the oven at the time and temperature Cerakote sets; some air-cure instead.
- Inspect: every part goes through strict quality control before it’s packed.

Rather talk it through? Ask for a callback and we’ll ring you at a time that suits.
It helps to mention any threads, bores or faces that need to stay bare, and when you need the parts back.
